In 2025, southstatesound culminates its year with a landmark collaborative EP that serves as a musical manifesto: Midnight Surrender. This release brings together three powerhouse talents—AndyDeep, SemiLoopz, & Dj Phoenix—in a strategic effort to close the gap between local creation and national consumption.
Crafted at the very heart of South Africa's Deep House and Soulful House community in the Free State, Midnight Surrender is more than just music; it's an introduction to a sound currently underexplored in the national market.
Now, southstatesound
is would love to invite you to the depth of its underground scene—the DJs and producers who have long kept the fire burning—to deliver a uniquely textured and soulful sound that is authentically Free State.
AndyDeep returns to South State Sound with Semiloopz and DJ Phoenix for an EP that treats the bass not as decoration, but as doctrine. Where most producers chase the loudest frequency in the room, this trio goes hunting for the one you feel in your chest before you hear it in your ears — the low end as a language of its own, spoken low, spoken slow, spoken from the Free State outward.
This is Deep House stripped of its urgency and rebuilt as architecture. Every kick that's held back is a decision. Every space left open in the low end is an invitation for the listener's own heartbeat to fill it in
the same "pocket of air" philosophy that drives 3-Step, now applied to the bottom end of the mix instead of the top.
Low End Theory isn't asking you to dance harder. It's asking you to lean in. Because the theory holds.
Long before the Midnight Surrender, there were the Echoes. Released as a strategic pre-debut, this EP, featuring the standout track "Static Memory," marked the first official movement from the Free State collective of AndyDeep, SemiLoopz, & Dj Phoenix under the southstatesound banner.
Echoes Before The Verse was a crucial prelauch/pilot project, quietly introducing a sonic palette that dared to challenge the regional status quo.
It was the moment southstatesound took the first step in its mission: to prove that the Deep and Soulful House music created in the heart of South Africa's Free State community could stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the country's biggest exports.
This EP is the genesis, the blueprint, and the prelude—
Revisit the Echoes to understand the Verse.
In the expansive narrative of the Free State sound, Orbiting Shadows is the single that marks the definitive shift. Serving as the essential bridge between the foundational Echoes Before The Verse EP and the final statement Midnight Surrender EP, this track signifies the beginning of a long-term, collaborative partnership between AndyDeep, SemiLoopz, & Dj Phoenix and southstatesound.
Where Echoes tested the waters, "Orbiting Shadows" commits fully, capturing the moment the collective realized the power of their united vision. It marks the initial chapter of
exploration and simultaneously kicks off the final, high-stakes phase of 2025.
This single isn't just a song, it's the pledge, the pivot point, and the promise of the groundbreaking Deep and Soulful House music.
We answered that question with the launch of the strategic pre-debut, Echoes Before The Verse EP. This release, featuring the foundational track Static Memory,Prelude To Me was the successful first step—a vital proof of concept that tested the national appetite for a locally-grown, authentic sound from the heart of the community.
This journey—from the initial test of Echoes Before The Verse to the committed partnership signaled by "Orbiting Shadows"—has now culminated in the final, powerful collection for 2025.
This opening EP is the definitive statement, celebrating a collaboration that has finally closed the gap, bringing the unique,
underexplored Deep and Soulful House flavor of Sound from Free State to the forefront of the national community.

It started with a crackle before the kick drum. It's grown into a bassline you feel before you hear it. Trace the journey of AndyDeep, SemiLoopz, and DJ Phoenix — from their debut EP Echoes Before The Verse to their latest release, Low End Theory — and hear how a small studio in Bethlehem, Free State, built a sound with a full-time crew behind it.
We have seen it in the charts. From the dominance of Amapiano to the rise of 3-Step Afrotech, the air in the South African music scene has changed. It is no longer about the steady thump of the past so it is about the complex and winding roads we walk today. It is about the rhythm you didn’t know you were waiting for.
